Wayne Dugas

December 15, 1935 — March 23, 2017

In Memory of

Wayne Foster Dugas

December 15, 1935 – March 23, 2017

Wayne Foster Dugas died on March 23, 2017.  He was 81.

He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, married May 27, 1957, Laura Turner Dugas, brother Manuel Dugas, son Foster and his wife Pam, son Steve and his wife Lynn, grandchildren Brittnie Dugas, Will Dugas, Laura Nicole Dugas, Tyler Dugas, and Christian Dugas, step-granddaughter Kelly Mays, as well as a multitude of nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his parents Horace and Helen Dufrene Dugas, his son Bruce, his nephew Van Dugas and his nephew Warren Weaver.

Raised in Des Allemands, Louisiana, Wayne was very proud of his home state and the Louisiana Cajun heritage that surrounded him growing up.  He enjoyed the outdoors, and had a lifelong respect for animals, the land and nature.  A person of uncompromising integrity, friends knew that Wayne was a man of his word and someone on whom they could rely regardless of the circumstances.

At the center of his life was his family.  Wayne loved and cherished his wife Laura all of their days together.  After eloping at a young age, Laura and Wayne built a life together on an unconditional devotion to their three sons, Foster, Steve and Bruce.  Bruce’s death in 2008 brought heartbreak, but also a reinforcement of the enduring bonds of faith, family and friendship which were Wayne’s and his family’s most prized possessions.  The family’s values were captured in a priceless way thru Wayne’s relationship with his grandchildren, each of whom loved and adored their “Pepe.”

Upon graduation from Southeastern Louisiana University, Wayne began his career as a coach and teacher, possessing qualities that made him a natural in both roles.  His business career included a tenure at Dollar General in Scottsville, Kentucky, and later working independently as a manufacturer’s representative.  Hard work, fairness and honesty characterized his life in business.   Later, Wayne took great pride in the mission of the Dugas Family Foundation, and the conscientious manner in which his family serves as stewards of its philanthropy.

Consistent with the example set by his parents, Wayne committed his life to faith, kindness, honesty, and charity.  When asked how he wanted to be remembered, Wayne replied “as a fun-loving, respected, devoted and kind human being.”  With thanks to God many of us will do that!

Visitation will be held at T. W. Crow & Son Funeral Home in Scottsville, Kentucky all day on Sunday, March 26, and prior to the service the following day.  A celebration of Wayne Dugas’ life will be held at Scottsville First United Methodist Church on Monday, March 27 at 1:00 p.m.

Wayne asked that memorial donations be made to Scottsville United Methodist Church, the Friends of Dugas Community Park in Scottsville, or Good News United Methodist Church in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida.  As he once noted, “Like the Cajuns I grew up with, when I die please remember the good times and do not labor on the bad.”
