Scottsville

Jerry Neal Whitney, Sr., a man whose life was a tapestry woven from entrepreneurship, philanthropy, and boundless compassion, passed away on June 2, 2026, at his home in Scottsville, Kentucky. Born on December 1, 1962, Jerry’s journey was marked by an insatiable creativity and a heart that embraced all those around him.

Jerry was a lifetime entrepreneur, donning many hats and operating numerous small businesses throughout his vibrant life. His legacy is especially remembered through his impassioned preaching of the Gospel, spirited auctions, and extensive construction experiences. To the many who knew him, he was “Uncle Jed,” a beloved figure within his broad Facebook and YouTube communities, whose reach extended far beyond the quaint borders of Scottsville. His impact remains immeasurable, a beacon of kindness and inspiration that will resonate long beyond his years.

Educated with determination, Jerry earned his GED from Warren County at just sixteen, a precocious start to a life defined by resourcefulness and vision. He was innovative before his time, an idea man whose creativity was as expansive as his extraordinary heart. Those fortunate enough to know him saw a man kind and selfless, one who never met a stranger and whose generosity knew no bounds.

His passions were beautifully simple yet profoundly meaningful—he cherished being a husband, father, grandfather, and brother, finding joy in the mountains, “treasure hunting” in storage units, and dancing the twist with an enthusiasm that defied his years. Despite the battle he faced with cancer, Jerry’s spirit remained unyielding. Surrounded by those he loved dearly, he won his final battle, transcending the physical to leave a spirit untouched and eternal.

Jerry’s proudest accomplishments echo the depth of his commitment to community and faith. Honored as a Hometown Hero for his dedicated work with the homeless in Scottsville, he facilitated countless community events and dinners, steadfastly serving as a man of God who officiated numerous weddings and funerals. His hands built more than structures; they built hope, belonging, and love.

He is survived by a large, devoted family that was the cornerstone of his life. His beloved wife, India Whitney, stands as a testament to their shared journey. His children include Dustin Whitney and his wife Beth; Dr. Jennifer Whitney Emberton and her husband Gabe; Misty Carter and her husband Charles; Jerry Whitney, Jr. and his wife Autumn; Jeremiah Whitney and his wife Maggie; Emily Salloum and her husband Dakota; Jennifer Gibson and her husband Joseph; Jasmine Owen; Ireland Whitney; and Ruby Whitney.

Jerry’s heart blossomed further in the presence of his grandchildren—Gavin and his wife Katelyn, Darren, Alex and his wife Hannah, Tyler, Brantley, Tyra and her husband Austin, Carson and his wife Rose, Madalyn, Bianca, Maddie, Olivia, Chance, J.T. (Jerry Neal Whitney, III); Jaxon, Jace, Jett, Gus, Zella, Sam, and grand-baby to come, Eliana. As well as great-grandchildren Sawyer, Emberlynn, Aayla, and greatgrand-baby to come, Georgia. He remains lovingly remembered by his siblings Wanda Wright and her husband Tim-Tim, and Kenneth Whitney and his wife Sandra, as well as a vast circle of nieces, nephews, cousins, family friends, and an online community that embraced him as one of their own.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Ruby and Loren Whitney; siblings Loren “Pete” Whitney Jr., Lena Whitney Henson, Kay Johnson, Kathy Gillock, Larry Whitney Sr., Barbara Whitney, and Lesa Whitney; stepson Wesley Woods; and his family's beloved pet, Riot.

The community is invited to honor and celebrate Jerry's remarkable life during visitation at T.W. Crow and Son Family Funeral Home, located at 201 N Court St, Scottsville, KY 42164, on Friday, June 5 from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, June 6 from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
