With broken hearts, we share the unexpected passing of Chasity Maneal Graves Vernon, age 53, on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at her home in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
To her husband, Doug, Chasity was simply his person—his best friend, soulmate, and partner in every part of life. Married in September 1998, they built a life together grounded in love, trust, faith, honesty, and a steadfast refusal to ever give up on one another. They could talk about anything—life, God, big questions, wild theories, worries, dreams, and everything in between—without fear of judgment. Through every season of life, they chose each other.
Born in Bowling Green, Kentucky, Chasity grew up in Allen County and was a proud graduate of Allen County-Scottsville High School. She later earned both her Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from Western Kentucky University.
Chasity never met a stranger. People were naturally drawn to her, often sharing deeply personal parts of their lives within minutes of meeting her. She used to joke that she must have had a tattoo on her forehead that read, "If you are crazy, come and tell me your life's story." But the truth was much simpler—people felt safe with her. She had a remarkable gift for making others feel seen, heard, understood, and accepted.
She found a career in federal law enforcement intelligence that she absolutely loved—work that perfectly matched her curious mind, intuition, and natural ability to understand people and situations. Later, she chose to step away from that career to stay home and raise her two sons, Cade and Damen, who were among the greatest joys of her life.
As her boys grew older, Chasity returned to school and earned her teaching degree, intentionally choosing a path that would allow her to share the same schedule as her sons and remain deeply present in their lives. Special education was a natural fit. As a special education teacher at Simpson Elementary School, she worked with students facing behavioral challenges and autism, connecting with children others sometimes struggled to reach. She saw beyond behaviors and into hearts, and her patience, compassion, humor, and unwavering belief in her students made a lasting difference for countless children and families.
Above all else, Chasity was a devoted wife, mother, and deeply proud parent. Few things brought her greater joy than watching the lives her boys were building. She was immensely proud of Cade, who is pursuing his dream of professional baseball, and just two weeks ago, she and Doug proudly watched Damen walk across the stage at Western Kentucky University to receive his degree. With a smile, Chasity would often say, "We did good," and she was right.
Home was her favorite place to be—the place where she created comfort, laughter, and belonging for the people she loved most. She also loved the beach, the sunshine, the salt air, and the peace that came with being near the water.
She was often the life of the party, bringing laughter and energy wherever she went, but those who knew her best understood that beneath that joyful spirit was a woman of deep compassion, fierce loyalty, and unwavering love.
Chasity is survived by her loving husband, Doug Vernon; her sons, Cade Vernon (Maddie) and Damen Vernon; her mother, Shavonti Golb; her sister, Ashlyn Ponce (Chris); her nephews, Layne Eaton, Oliver Ponce, Eli Ponce, and Rowan Ponce; along with countless extended family members, dear friends, coworkers, students, former students, and all whose lives she touched.
Though her physical presence is deeply missed, we find comfort in believing that Chasity's spirit lives on, and that the love, wisdom, laughter, and light she brought into this world remain with all who knew and loved her.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by T.W. Crow & Son Family Funeral Home.
